Single Sign-On (SSO)

Overview

Dashboard Legal supports Single Sign-On (SSO) to make access simple and secure for your organization. Once SSO is enabled, users sign in using their firm credentials; no separate passwords to manage.

SSO applies across Bloomberg products, including Dashboard Legal and Bloomberg Law, and provides a seamless experience between them.

Getting Started with SSO (Admins)

SSO setup is designed to be fast and straightforward.

How SSO Works

  • Your organization configures SSO using your identity provider (IdP), such as Microsoft Entra / Azure AD
  • Once enabled, users authenticate through your firm’s SSO
  • Users are automatically provisioned for Dashboard Legal behind the scenes

Recommended Setup

  • Create a single Active Directory (AD) group for Bloomberg products (Dashboard Legal, Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg Tax, etc.)
  • Add all users who should have access to any Bloomberg product to this group
  • We recommend adding the entire firm, which avoids needing admin updates later
  • This approach is already in use at many Am Law firms

Key Admin Notes

  • SSO applies to all Bloomberg subscriptions for your organization
  • Users do not need separate DBL credentials
  • No additional configuration is required for individual users

User Experience (What End Users See)

First-Time Access & Auto-Provisioning

Users are automatically provisioned for Dashboard Legal when they authenticate via SSO—even if they’ve never opened DBL before.

Important to know:

  • Users are not notified that they have access to Dashboard Legal
  • They only see DBL if they attempt to go there

Example

  • A user logs into Bloomberg Law
  • They authenticate via SSO
  • Behind the scenes, they are provisioned for Dashboard Legal
  • If they later navigate to Dashboard Legal, access is seamless

Magic Links & Product Routing

Dashboard Legal and Bloomberg Law use product-specific “magic links.”

  • If a user clicks a Dashboard Legal magic link, they are taken directly to DBL
  • If a user clicks a Bloomberg Law link, they are taken directly to BLAW
  • SSO ensures users are authenticated, but the link determines the destination

This means:

  • Users with access to both products will land in the correct one
  • Users won’t “accidentally” see Dashboard Legal unless they are given the DBL link

What Happens If Access Fails?

User Has SSO but Has Never Used the DBL Magic Link

  • User sees the standard login page
  • They enter their email address
  • Based on their domain, they are routed through SSO
  • This behaves the same as using the magic link

User Tries to Access a Product They Don’t Have

  • The user will see an extended sign-in page
  • This page explains that they are logged in but do not have access to that product
  • Instructions are provided to contact the Help Desk

Microsoft “Trouble Signing You In” Errors

  • These messages originate from your firm’s identity provider (e.g., Microsoft)
  • They typically indicate the user is not in the correct Active Directory group
  • Your internal IT team controls this messaging and group membership

Bloomberg Law + Dashboard Legal Together

When your organization has both Bloomberg Law and Dashboard Legal:

  • SSO is enabled for both products
  • Users authenticate once using SSO
  • Access is product-specific and link-driven
  • Dashboard Legal access is seamless but not visible unless users navigate to DBL

In short:

SSO controls authentication. Links control which product users enter.
